Sharker Card with Glimmer Hot Foil on Acetate | Tarjeta Shaker con Foil en Acetato

Hi, happy crafters!

The project I’m sharing with you today is a shaker card—an interactive card filled with sequins that show through a sheet of clear acetate. I love creating this type of project because it makes such a bold, eye-catching visual statement. For this card, I wanted to use one of the Spellbinders BetterPress sets, but to make the design truly pop on the acetate, I decided to use white foil with the Glimmer Hot Foil System instead.

Esta tarjeta que les traigo hoy es una shaker card —una tarjeta interactiva con lentejuelas en su interior que se aprecian a través de una lámina de acetato transparente—. Me encanta crear este tipo de proyectos porque resultan muy llamativos e impactantes visualmente. Para esta ocasión, quería utilizar uno de los sets de la BetterPress de Spellbinders, pero para lograr que el diseño destacara claramente sobre el acetato, preferí aplicar foil blanco con la Glimmer Hot Foil System.

This BetterPress Press Plate set includes several plates: two with images of a girl with her dog and others with various sentiments. Normally, these plates are used with the BetterPress system to press ink into cardstock and leave a delicate debossed effect; however, they are also compatible with the Glimmer Hot Foil System. For that reason, I chose to use them with the Glimmer system instead, allowing the illustration to stand out much more against the sequins inside the shaker card.

Este club de la BetterPress incluye varias placas: dos con imágenes de una chica con su perro y otras con distintas frases. Por lo general, estas placas se utilizan con la máquina BetterPress para estampar la tinta sobre la cartulina y dejar un delicado bajorrelieve; sin embargo, también son compatibles con la Glimmer Hot Foil System. Por esa razón, preferí usarlas con esta última, logrando así que la ilustración resaltara mucho más al combinarla con las lentejuelas del interior de la shaker card.

First, I created the background using different shades of Distress Oxide inks: Kitsch Flamingo, Wilted Violet, Picked Raspberry, and Mustard Seed. To soften the colors and boost the contrast with the sequins, I sprayed a little water over the surface to create that signature effect of white droplets and oxidized spots.

Primero creé el fondo utilizando diferentes tonos de tintas Distress Oxide: Kitsch Flamingo, Wilted Violet, Picked Raspberry y Mustard Seed. Para suavizar e intensificar el contraste con las lentejuelas, rocié un poco de agua sobre la superficie para crear ese característico efecto de gotas y manchas blancas.

Next, I applied white foil onto the acetate using the BetterPress plates. Since acetate is quite heat-sensitive, it requires less exposure time than standard cardstock. A great tip is to count just 10 seconds once you press the timer button on the Glimmer Hot Foil System. Also, if the machine has been on for a while and is already very hot, it's best not to place the acetate on the platform until right when you're ready to press. I did this in two steps: first foil-stamping the girl and then the dog.

Luego, apliqué foil blanco sobre el acetato con las placas de la BetterPress. Como el acetato es un material muy sensible al calor, requiere menos tiempo de exposición que la cartulina tradicional. Un buen truco es contar solo 10 segundos una vez presionado el botón del temporizador (timer) de la Glimmer Hot Foil System. Además, si la máquina ya ha estado encendida y está muy caliente, es recomendable no colocar el acetato hasta justo el momento de usarla. Realicé este proceso en dos pasos: primero apliqué la imagen de la chica y después la del perrito.

On top of the Distress Oxide-inked cardstock, I stuck foam tape strips along the edges. Then, I placed the star-shaped sequins in the center and glued the acetate over them to trap them inside. Finally, for a much cleaner and polished finish, I added a rectangular frame to cover the foam tape strips that were visible through the acetate.

Sobre la cartulina teñida con las Distress Oxide, adherí tiras de cinta de espuma adhesiva (foam tape strips) a lo largo de los bordes. Luego, coloqué las lentejuelas con forma de estrella en el centro y pegué el acetato por encima para dejarlas atrapadas en el interior. Finalmente, para un acabado mucho más limpio y pulido, añadí un marco rectangular para cubrir las tiras de espuma que quedaban visibles a través del acetato.

To finish, I used a set of sentiment dies in Spanish. I die-cut the words out of white cardstock and copper metallic cardstock to layer them for a dimensional effect. And that’s all! I hope you really enjoyed this card, and I’ll see you in the next project!

Para terminar, utilicé un set de troqueles con frases en español. Troquelé las palabras en cartulina blanca y en cartulina metalizada de color cobre para crear capas con relieve. ¡Y esto es todo! Espero que les haya gustado mucho esta tarjeta y nos vemos en el próximo proyecto.
