Today I’m showing you my favorite and easiest technique to use with 3D embossing folders. If you’ve been following me for a while, you already know how much I love inking my folders. To use them, a manual die-cutting machine is essential, since its pressure is what embeds the inner design directly onto the cardstock.

Hoy les muestro mi técnica preferida y la más fácil para usar con las carpetas de repujado en 3D (embossing). Si me siguen desde hace tiempo, ya saben que me encanta tintar las carpetas. Para utilizarlas, es imprescindible usar una troqueladora manual, ya que gracias a su presión el diseño del interior queda grabado directamente en la cartulina.

3D embossing folders are used to add texture and dimension to our card backgrounds. If you want the background to be the star of the show, you can apply vibrant colors; however, in this post, we’ll show you how to add a more subtle touch of color—perfect for complementing and highlighting your die-cut images as the main focal point.

Las carpetas de embossing 3D sirven para dar textura y relieve a los fondos de nuestras tarjetas. Si quieres que el fondo sea el protagonista, puedes aplicar colores vibrantes; sin embargo, en esta publicación te enseñaremos a darle un toque de color más sutil, ideal para acompañar y destacar tus imágenes troqueladas como foco principal.

For the first card, I used the 3D embossing folder in the most basic way: plain and un-inked, using just a soft light brown cardstock. If you’re not looking for high contrast, there's no need to add ink; it creates a subtle finish that's perfect for backgrounds that don't need to steal the spotlight.

Para la primera tarjeta, utilicé la carpeta de embossing 3D de la forma más básica: sin tintar, usando simplemente una cartulina de color marrón pálido. Si no buscas mucho contraste, no hace falta añadir tinta; se logra un acabado sutil, perfecto para fondos que no necesitan ser el centro de atención.

For the second card, we used the same pale brown cardstock, but added a subtle touch of contrast so the textured background wouldn't look plain. It's a light shade that pops the embossed design without taking center stage away from the rest of the elements.

Para la segunda tarjeta, utilizamos el mismo color de cartulina (marrón pálido), pero le añadimos un toque sutil de contraste para que el fondo texturizado no quede soso. Es un matiz ligero que resalta el relieve sin restarle protagonismo al resto de los elementos.

For the third and final card, we wanted to add higher contrast to the background without losing focus on the die-cut elements. To achieve this, we chose a dark brown cardstock and inked the folder with an even deeper shade of brown, highlighting the full depth and texture of the 3D design. Since this background catches much more attention than the previous ones, overloading it with the same eye-catching images would have been too much. Instead, we picked bold details with fewer overall elements. We opted for accents made with the Glimmer Hot Foil system and copper foil, creating a harmonious blend of color and contrast between the background and the main layout.

Para la tercera y última tarjeta, buscamos darle un mayor contraste al fondo sin perder el foco en los elementos troquelados. Para lograrlo, elegimos una cartulina marrón oscura y tintamos la carpeta con un tono marrón aún más intenso; así se revela al máximo la textura y el relieve del diseño 3D. Como este fondo llama bastante más la atención que los anteriores, recargarlo con las mismas imágenes vistosas de los otros modelos habría sido demasiado. Por eso, elegimos detalles destacados pero con menos elementos visuales. Optamos por adornos hechos con la Glimmer Hot Foil y foil en tono cobre, logrando una conexión armoniosa de color y contraste entre el fondo y la composición principal.
