Hello, crafters!

As I've shared in previous posts, layered stencils are super easy to use: all you have to do is place the stencil over the cardstock and ink it layer by layer, mixing different colors or shades. I thought this Spellbinders set (from a 2025 club kit) was absolutely gorgeous because it lets you create a two-tone striped background and then add a lovely cherry pattern across the whole surface. I went with a bold black background so the design would really pop. Since this is from a past edition, keep in mind that these products are usually in the clearance section and sell out fast—but if it's already sold out, you can always adapt the idea with a similar stencil.

Como ya les he contado en publicaciones anteriores, los esténciles en capas son sencillísimos de usar: solo hay que colocar la plantilla sobre la cartulina e ir entintando, capa a capa, combinando diferentes colores o tonos. Este set de Spellbinders (de un club de 2025) me pareció precioso porque permite crear un fondo a tiras en dos tonos para luego añadir un hermoso patrón de cerezas por toda la superficie; yo elegí un fondo negro con mucha fuerza para que el motivo resalte al máximo. Al ser de una edición pasada, recuerden que este tipo de productos suele estar en la sección de liquidación y vuela rápido, pero si ya está agotado, ¡siempre pueden adaptarlo con un modelo similar!

This set consists of five stencils: the first two layers create the background (where you can combine lines in two or more colors), while the remaining three form the cherry pattern. Since we wanted a high-impact look to make the bright reds and greens of the fruit really pop, I inked the first background layer with black stripes and left the second layer uncolored, taking advantage of the white cardstock. For this project, I used Hero Arts Core Ink pads in Intense Black, Cranberry, Cherry, Kiwi, Green Apple, Fresh Lawn, and Moss. Quick heads-up: in the video, you’ll notice a few different color names because the brand renamed several of their shades a few years ago.

Este set consta de cinco esténciles o máscaras: las dos primeras capas son para crear el fondo (donde pueden combinar líneas de dos o más colores) y las tres restantes forman el patrón de cerezas. Como queríamos un resultado impactante para que el rojo y el verde de las frutas resaltaran al máximo, entinté la primera capa del fondo con tiras negras y dejé la segunda sin colorear, aprovechando el blanco de la cartulina. Para este proyecto utilicé las tintas Hero Arts Core Ink en los tonos Intense Black, Cranberry, Cherry, Kiwi, Green Apple, Fresh Lawn y Moss. Un pequeño detalle: en el video verán algunos nombres diferentes, ya que la marca cambió la denominación de varios tonos hace unos años.

To ink this card, I used a non-slip craft mat, which is ideal for keeping the cardstock in place so you can work with total precision without it shifting as you apply the ink. These types of mats stick perfectly to glass surfaces like the Glass Media Mat. I also used an ink pad holder so the pad wouldn't slide around on my desk when picking up ink with a brush or sponge. While these aren't essential tools, I have to admit they make the whole process so much smoother and more comfortable!

Para entintar esta tarjeta utilicé un tapete de manualidades antideslizante, ideal para mantener la cartulina fija y trabajar con total precisión sin que se mueva al aplicar la tinta. Este tipo de tapetes se adhiere a la perfección a superficies de cristal como las Glass Media Mat. Además, me ayudé de un soporte para el tintero que evita que este baile sobre la mesa al cargar el cepillo o la esponja. Aunque no son herramientas imprescindibles, reconozco que hacen que el proceso sea muchísimo más cómodo y fluido.

For the final touch, I added a delicate shimmer to the cherries using a glitter pen and gave them some dimension with a bit of dimensional clear glue. I also drew subtle highlights using a white acrylic marker to help them blend seamlessly into the background.

Para el toque final de la tarjeta, añadí un brillo muy fino a las cerezas con un rotulador de purpurina y les di volumen aplicando un poco de pegamento transparente con relieve. Además, para integrarlas mejor con el fondo, dibujé sutiles destellos de luz con un rotulador acrílico blanco.

Finally, I added a die-cut sentiment matching the background colors: black and white. I chose a simple message to ensure the cherry pattern remained the true star of the card.

Finalmente, añadí una frase troquelada combinando los mismos colores del fondo: negro y blanco. Elegí un mensaje sencillo para asegurar que el patrón de las cerezas siguiera siendo el verdadero protagonista de la tarjeta.
