1. CARDSTOCK AND PAPER | CARTULINA Y PAPEL
To create our cards, it is essential to use high-quality cardstock. Therefore, we recommend using cardstock that can withstand different colouring media, such as inks, markers, and coloured pencils. The cardstock we rely on is Neenah Solar White 80 lb cardstock (approximately 216 gsm), which is one of the most widely used cardstocks in cardmaking. On the other hand, we need heavier-weight cardstock when assembling our cards or when creating interactive or dimensional designs. For this purpose, we use the same Neenah Solar White cardstock in a slightly heavier weight: Neenah Solar White 110 lb cardstock (approximately 300 gsm).
Para crear nuestras tarjetas, es esencial utilizar cartulina de alta calidad. Por ello, recomendamos utilizar una cartulina que pueda soportar diferentes medios de coloreado, como tintas, rotuladores y l谩pices de colores. Colored cardstock! Of course, we love color, and when we use cardstock—especially for die-cutting—we choose the color range offered by Spellbinders. This company provides a wide selection of high-quality, heavyweight cardstock colors that can even be used as card bases or further inked and coloured with other mediums. We also highly recommend Altenew cardstock, particularly their pastel collections and their extensive range of yellow shades.

Over the years, we have used many different adhesives in our cardmaking projects. In recent years, we have had to test several alternatives after the tape adhesive we originally used was discontinued. As a result, we recommend both the Spellbinders and Altenew tape runners, which are refillable.

3. DIE CUTTING MACHINES | TROQUELADORAS MANUALES
A manual die-cutting machine is one of the first tools you acquire when entering the world of cardmaking. This tool allows you to cut cardstock using metal dies and to emboss cardstock with embossing folders. The die-cutting machines we recommend are the Spellbinders Platinum 6 and the Sizzix Big Shot. If you are new to cardmaking or scrapbooking, we recommend the latter, as its platform system is simpler and more beginner-friendly. The Platinum 6 may feel somewhat complicated if you are not yet familiar with basic cardmaking techniques. For this reason, we recommend the Spellbinders Platinum 6 once you have gained more experience. The Spellbinders platform system mentioned above is one of the best I have ever used for both die-cutting and embossing, and the results are outstanding. Both of these manual die-cutting machines are also available in larger versions, which are useful for cutting multiple dies at the same time or working with larger die designs. However, if your primary focus is cardmaking, we recommend the standard-sized versions.

4. OTHER MACHINES | OTRAS M脕QUINAS
In recent years, cardmaking has seen a revolution known as foiling. Foil sheets are thin metallic sheets that are applied to cardstock using heat. There are two main types of foiling: foil sheets that are applied using the heat of a laminator, and specialised hot foil systems designed specifically for hot foiling. To apply foil using a laminator, you can use either clear embossing powder, special foiling embossing powders, or embossing paste designed for foiling. Another option is to print a design using a laser printer with black toner only, as toner reacts with foil and allows the foil to adhere to the printed design. Several embossing pastes allow foil to be applied without heat. In this case, the foil is applied using only the pressure of a manual die-cutting machine, without the need for a laminator. For hot foiling with specialised machines, you need hot foil plates designed for use with the system, as well as a compatible manual die-cutting machine. The pressure created by the die-cutting machine transfers the foil onto the cardstock.

BetterPress is an innovative system introduced by Spellbinders. It requires specially designed plates, which can also be used with the Glimmer Hot Foil System. However, the reverse is not possible: Glimmer Hot Foil plates cannot be used with the BetterPress system. The BetterPress process involves placing a design plate onto a base. The platform is run through a compatible manual die-cutting machine, which applies pressure and transfers the design onto the cardstock, creating a deeply impressed effect similar to letterpress printing. The plates can also be inked before use, allowing the design to be printed in colour while simultaneously creating the pressed impression.

5. INKS | TINTAS
The world of inks is vast and diverse, and choosing the right ones largely depends on how you intend to use them.

5.1. DYE INKS | TINTAS A BASE DE ALCOHOL
Dye inks are translucent and are quickly absorbed by the paper, making them fast-drying inks. However, they cannot be used effectively on dark cardstock because the ink tends to disappear into the surface. They are also compatible with alcohol markers and many other colouring mediums, as the ink does not smear once dry. The most commonly used dye inks are black stamping inks, which are ideal for colouring with your preferred medium.

Dye inks can also be used for ink blending and creating backgrounds by combining different colours, as they blend easily together. Due to their translucent nature, they are not visible on dark-coloured cardstock.

5.2. PIGMENT INKS | TINTAS DE PIGMENTO
Pigment inks are opaque, slow-drying inks. Because they remain wet for longer, they are ideal for techniques involving embossing powders and detailed stamp impressions. Thanks to their opaque properties, they are clearly visible on dark cardstock, although they are not generally recommended for very slick or non-porous surfaces.

One particularly popular black pigment ink is an oil-based, opaque, slow-drying ink. Due to the combination of pigment and oil-based components, it is a relatively heavy ink that produces extremely crisp and detailed stamped impressions, capturing even the finest details of a stamp. Like other pigment inks, it can be used for heat embossing. This type of ink is often used when colouring with watercolours or other water-based techniques, provided the ink has been allowed to dry completely beforehand. To speed up the drying process, a heat embossing tool can be used.

5.3. TIM HOLTZ DISTRESS INKS AND OXIDE INKS |TINTAS DISTRESS DE TIM HOLTZ
Tim Holtz Distress Inks deserve a category of their own because of their unique properties. These inks are dye-based and translucent, meaning they are quickly absorbed by paper. As a result, if they are applied to dark cardstock, the colour will largely disappear into the surface. Distress Inks can be used for stamping, although they do not produce the sharpest stamped impressions. Their primary strengths are ink blending, background creation, and water-reactive techniques. Because they react with water, they can be used almost like watercolours, allowing crafters to create colourful and highly textured backgrounds by adding water effects.

Within the same product family are Tim Holtz Distress Oxide Inks. These are hybrid inks made from a combination of dye and pigment components. Unlike traditional Distress Inks, Distress Oxides are opaque, meaning the ink remains on the surface and provides much greater coverage. Because they combine dye and pigment properties, Distress Oxides can be used successfully on dark cardstock. Their pigment component also means they dry more slowly, making them suitable for use with embossing powders. However, Distress Oxides differ from traditional pigment inks because they do not contain glycerine, an ingredient commonly found in many pigment formulations. According to their creator, Tim Holtz, the absence of glycerine allows the inks to dry naturally while producing the distinctive oxidised, chalk-like finish for which they are known.

5.4. CLEAR EMBOSSING INKS |TINTAS TRANSPARENTES PARA EMBOSSING
Finally, the clear inks are special and are used for embossing with embossing powders. However, with these inks, different techniques can be used in card making, such as the resist technique, which consists of stamping and embossing with transparent embossing powder and then colouring over it, so that what is embossed catches, or catches the colour of the cardstock. Another technique in cardmaking would be to create a background of a different shade from that of the cardstock, as when stamping with this ink, the cardstock darkens.

6. OTHER COLORING MEDIUMS | OTROS MEDIOS PARA COLOREAR
6.1. ALCOHOL MARKERS | ROTULADORES A BASE DE ALCOHOL
The most commonly used medium in card making is alcohol markers. There is a wide range of alcohol markers available. They range from lower to higher prices and can be supplemented with different brands. We used medium alcohol markers that were neither too expensive nor too cheap. When we started in the world of card making, they were a great success - ProMarkers and BrushMarkers from Winsor & Newton. In the meantime, we were acquiring Copic markers, which are much more expensive but much easier to combine and mix. Our recommendation is these two, as they are the ones we have used.

6.2. ALCOHOL INKS | TINTAS DE ALCOHOL
Alcohol inks are pots of alcohol-based paint that can be used to colour many surfaces, both porous and non-porous. A blower is used to move the paint and create spectacular abstract backgrounds. It is often used with alcohol and a mixing liquid to make the colours blend better.
Las tintas de alcohol son botes con pintura a base de alcohol que sirven para colorar muchas superficies, tanto porosas como no porosas. Se utiliza un soplador para mover la pintura y crear fondos abstractos espectaculares. Se suele utilizar con alcohol y con un l铆quido mezclador para que los colores se mezclen mejor.
6.3. WATERCOLOR MARKERS | ROTULADORES DE ACUARELAS
Karin's watercolour markers are the most commonly used in card-making these days. They blend very well and are quite affordable. In recent years, they have become the most widely used watercolour markers.

The colored pencils we use are Faber-Castell Polychromos. They are pigmented and very bright colored pencils that are suitable for colouring on light and dark cardboard. They also blend very well.

Other interesting media are the pastes used with the stencils. They are applied with a spatula, and in recent years, several companies have launched a wide variety of pastes. This year, the most commonly used are Lunar Paste and Solar Paste by Simon Hurley. Both are metallic, but the former are brighter in colour, and the latter are more pearlescent colours, which change colour depending on the perspective. They are also pastes that can be used on both dark and light cardstock.

7. STAMPS | SELLOS
The stamps can be transparent or rubber stamps. Both must be mounted on an acrylic block so that they can be inked and stamped on the desired surface (cardstock, cardboard, etc.). Depending on the ink used for stamping, different media can be used to colour the image, such as watercolours, inks, felt-tip pens, etc. In addition, many of them come with their respective coordinating dies so you can stamp and die-cut. There are different categories of stamps, one of them being layered stamps, where you stamp each stamp with a different ink, through layering, which results in a very realistic image. For this, a stamping platform that allows you to stamp the stamp in the same position as many times as necessary would be advisable. All companies in the cardmaking world include stamps in their catalogue. So stamps are subjective, as each person is different and each one will like the designs of one company or another. Below we show you the stamps that we have used and that we like.

Para ello, ser铆a recomendable una plataforma de estampaci贸n que permita estampar el sello en la misma posici贸n las veces que sean necesarias. Todas las compa帽铆as del mundo de la tarjeter铆a incluyen sellos en su cat谩logo. 9.2. EMBOSSING POWDER | POLVO DE EMBOSSING
Embossing is one of the most recognised techniques in the world of card-making. It involves stamping the image with a slow-drying ink, such as Versamark Watermark, and then adding the powders, which, with the help of the heat tool, heat the powders, which dry quickly, creating dimension to the card. A heat tool or embossing tool is needed to perform this technique, which must be purchased taking into account the voltage of the country in which we are located, as it is used by mains electricity. In addition, we recommend anti-static powders so that the powders adhere better to the image. The most commonly used embossing powders are white, transparent, gold, and silver, although other mixed powders simulate sand, sea, or gems.

10. EMBELLISHMENTS | DECORACIONES
The decorations used on cards depend on their overall composition: whether they feature a lot of die-cut elements or are mainly made up of a beautiful background. There are many different types of embellishments, including sequins, discs, bubbles, gems, and enamels. However, clay embellishments are a category of their own, as they tend to be the most intricate and varied. They come in a wide range of shapes and sizes, from Christmas presents, clips, pumpkins, and ghosts to apples, lemons, snowflakes, little houses, and much more. In short, there is a wonderfully wide variety to choose from, making it easy to find the perfect embellishments for any card.
Las decoraciones de las tarjetas dependen de su composici贸n: de si tienen mucho troquelado o de si, por el contrario, est谩n compuestas principalmente por un fondo bonito. 11.1. STAMPING TOOLS | HERRAMIENTAS DE ESTAMPACI脫N
Stamp positioning tools are essential in the world of cardmaking because, once a stamp is placed, it remains in position, allowing you to stamp the same image repeatedly without the cardstock or paper moving. There are several stamping platforms available, but the most widely used is the MISTI. These tools have evolved considerably over the years, and there are now stamping platforms that allow you to rotate a stamp in a circular motion to create repeated stamped backgrounds with ease.
Las plataformas de estampaci贸n son necesarias en el mundo de la tarjeter铆a, ya que cuando estampas un sello, este queda en su sitio, permitiendo repetir el estampado una y otra vez sin que la cartulina o el papel se mueva. 11.2. CUTTING TOOLS | HERRAMIENTAS DE CORTE

11.3. HEAT EMBOSSING TOOLS | HERRAMIENTAS PARA EMBOSSING EN CALIENTE
To perform heat embossing, you will need a heat embossing tool (or heat tool). This tool is used to heat and melt embossing powder after a stamp has been stamped using a special clear embossing ink. Once the embossing powder has melted and cooled, it creates a raised, embossed image. Heat embossing tools should be purchased in the country where they will be used, as they require mains electricity and must be compatible with local electrical specifications.

11.4. WORK SURFACES | SUPERFICIES DE TRABAJO
In recent years, there has been a significant increase in the variety of work surface mats available. Cutting mats, for example, can be used with craft knives to cut all types of materials, but they are not ideal for working with inks because they can become permanently stained. Today, however, glass and magnetic mats of various sizes have become increasingly popular. These mats are excellent for ink blending and messy techniques, as most ink residue can be removed easily with water or rubbing alcohol. However, they are not suitable for cutting. For this reason, it is always advisable to have both a cutting mat and a glass mat. Finally, there are sticky mats that hold paper or cardstock in place while applying ink, preventing unwanted movement. However, there are also more economical alternatives, such as painter’s tape, masking tape, or magnets used with glass mats and stamping platforms. There are many different options available, so it is important to find the method that feels most comfortable for you. In fact, some of these products have been specifically designed to fit inside stamping platforms to prevent cardstock from shifting, although they can also be used independently.
En los 煤ltimos a帽os, ha habido un incremento de tapetes para cubrir nuestra zona de trabajo, como los tapetes de corte que se pueden utilizar con c煤ter para cortar todo tipo de materiales, pero son incompatibles con las tintas, ya que dejan manchas. 11.5. SCISSORS | TIJERAS
For cutting small, intricate pieces, I particularly like Tim Holtz Snips because they are comfortable to use and excellent for detailed cutting. For larger cutting tasks, I have recently been using the Spellbinders scissors, as they cut very effectively with minimal effort.

11.8. INK APPLICATION | APLICACI脫N DE TINTAS
When it comes to applying ink to cardstock, there are many tools available. However, the most commonly used are ink blending tools and ink blending brushes. Nowadays, brushes are particularly popular and are available in a variety of sizes. It is generally recommended to dedicate brushes to specific types of ink—for example, one set for Distress Oxide Inks—and, if possible, to specific colour families, such as red, blue, yellow, and so on.

11.9. OTHER USEFUL TOOLS | OTRAS HERRAMIENTAS 脷TILES
While applying ink to cardstock, it is very easy to accidentally transfer ink to areas you did not intend to colour. This happens frequently, even when working carefully. Don't panic! Use the special Mono Tombow Sand Eraser, which does not erase in the traditional sense but gently abrades the surface to remove stubborn ink marks. This eraser is also useful for refining projects and removing unwanted Glimmer Foil residue.

12. CLEANING | LIMPIEZA
To clean stamps, we usually use a microfibre cloth with water. We also have a specialised stamp-cleaning towel that we reserve for occasions when stamps become particularly dirty, and a cloth alone is not sufficient. If we need to deep clean stamps because a particular ink leaves a significant amount of residue, I use a stamp-cleaning tool together with a dedicated stamp-cleaning solution.
To clean our stamps, we usually use a microfiber cloth or rag lightly dampened with water. However, when they are particularly stained and the cloth is not enough, we use a special towel that we keep specifically for this type of cleaning. On the other hand, when we want to give our stamps a more thorough clean, especially after using inks that leave a lot of residue, we use a specific stamp-cleaning tool together with a special cleaning solution. This allows us to remove ink residue more effectively and keep our stamps in good condition for longer.
13. ORGANISATION | ORGANIZACI脫N
There are different types of organizers that can help you keep your craft room perfectly tidy and under control. However, we cannot always have every type of organizer we would like, as the size of our space is a key factor. Although we may think that adding more storage will make everything better organized, it is important to find the right balance. When choosing organizers, we should consider not only their size but also the functionality of the space and, above all, our comfort. A well-organized craft room should allow us to move around easily and keep everything we use frequently within reach. So, don’t buy an organizer simply because it looks pretty. Before making a purchase, think about your priorities, the space available, and how you are going to use it. The key is to create an organization system that is practical, functional, and adapted to your needs.
Existen diferentes tipos de organizadores que pueden ayudarte a mantener tu craftroom en perfecto orden. Sin embargo, no siempre podemos disponer de todos los organizadores que nos gustar铆a. El tama帽o de nuestro espacio es un factor determinante y, aunque pensemos que a帽adir m谩s almacenaje har谩 que todo est茅 mejor organizado, es importante encontrar un equilibrio. A la hora de elegir los organizadores, debemos tener en cuenta no solo su tama帽o, sino tambi茅n la funcionalidad del espacio y, sobre todo, nuestra comodidad. Un craftroom bien organizado debe permitirnos movernos con facilidad y tener a mano todo aquello que utilizamos con frecuencia. Por eso, no compres un organizador 煤nicamente porque sea bonito. Antes de hacerlo, piensa en tus prioridades, en el espacio disponible y en c贸mo vas a utilizarlo. La clave est谩 en conseguir una organizaci贸n pr谩ctica, funcional y adaptada a ti.
