Hace algún tiempo hice unas tarjetas con la colección “Little Smiles” (Pequeñas Sonrisas) de Spellbinders. Esta colección fue lanzada en marzo de 2025 y, aunque tenía pensado publicar esta entrada mucho antes, mi ordenador se estropeó y, además, sufrí una lesión de la que aún me estoy recuperando poco a poco. Las tarjetas presentan unos adorables personajes de animales viajando en un globo aerostático con forma de estrella que se mueve de un lado a otro. Para realizarlas utilicé tres productos de la colección: la placa de BetterPress Falling Stars y la carpeta de embossing 3D Wishing Stars para el fondo, y los troqueles Swinging Among the Stars para las imágenes principales de las tarjetas. Este último troquel permite que el cesto incluido se balancee de un lado a otro, lo que convierte la tarjeta en una tarjeta interactiva. Son perfectas para regalar a niños e incluso a futuras mamás.

Card backgrounds | Fondos de las tarjetas
To create the backgrounds, I first used the BetterPress plate from this collection, although instead of using the BetterPress system I used it with the Glimmer machine. Remember that BetterPress plates are compatible with the Glimmer system, but not the other way around: Glimmer plates cannot be used with BetterPress.
Para crear los fondos utilicé primero la placa de BetterPress de esta colección, aunque en lugar de usar la máquina BetterPress la utilicé con la máquina Glimmer. Recuerden que las placas de BetterPress son compatibles con la Glimmer, pero no al revés: las placas de Glimmer no pueden utilizarse con BetterPress.

I made several tests on different coloured cardstocks (white, Mist, Nautical, etc.) using different foil colours, mainly Aura, Prism, white and gold. Once the foil was applied, I used the coordinating 3D embossing folder designed to work with the BetterPress plate. To do this, the cardstock is placed horizontally inside the embossing folder and then run through a manual die-cutting machine.
Hice varias pruebas en diferentes cartulinas de colores (blanca, Mist, Nautical, etc.) y con distintos colores de foil: Aura, Prism, blanco y dorado, principalmente. Una vez aplicado el foil, utilicé la carpeta de embossing 3D diseñada para combinar con la placa de BetterPress. Para ello, se coloca la cartulina de forma horizontal dentro de la carpeta de embossing y se pasa por la troqueladora manual.

However, I also wanted to change things up a little and used one of my favourite techniques. Using coloured ink, I inked the inside flap of the embossing folder before running it through the die-cutting machine. This way, the entire cardstock becomes coloured except for the embossed stars, which remain the original colour of the base cardstock. For another card, I used several ink colours to create a vibrant sunset effect.
Sin embargo, también quise cambiar un poco la dinámica y recurrí a uno de mis métodos favoritos. Utilizando una tinta de color, entinté directamente la tapa de la carpeta de embossing antes de pasarla por la troqueladora. De esta manera, toda la cartulina queda coloreada excepto las estrellas embosadas, que mantienen el color de la cartulina base. En otra de las tarjetas utilicé varios colores de tinta para crear un fondo con efecto de atardecer, lleno de matices y muy colorido.

To create the images, I die-cut all the pieces from different coloured cardstocks. I did not follow a strict colour palette; I simply started cutting the pieces little by little. Many of them were die-cut from white cardstock, especially those that form part of the moving mechanism, because the swinging element needs a bit of weight to work properly. Layering several die-cuts also provides extra stability.
Para crear las imágenes, troquelé todas las piezas en diferentes cartulinas de colores. No seguí una paleta estricta; simplemente fui troquelando poco a poco las distintas piezas. Muchas de ellas las troquelé en cartulina blanca, especialmente las que forman parte del mecanismo móvil, ya que el sistema de balanceo necesita cierto peso para funcionar correctamente. Al superponer varias capas se consigue mayor estabilidad.

The main piece includes a basket that swings like a little pendulum. Once the mechanism is assembled, it is attached to the card using a piece of foam adhesive, taking advantage of the circular opening at the top of the piece. I added another foam adhesive piece at the top to attach the star-shaped balloon.
La pieza principal incluye un cesto que se balancea como si fuera un columpio. Una vez montado el mecanismo, se añade a la tarjeta utilizando un trozo de adhesivo de espuma en relieve, aprovechando el hueco circular que tiene en la parte superior. Yo añadí otro adhesivo en la parte superior para fijar posteriormente el globo en forma de estrella.

La elección de los colores también es importante para la composición final. Si observamos el fondo colorido que creamos anteriormente, las imágenes podrían perder protagonismo. Por eso decidí troquelar el globo y el personaje principal en color negro, creando siluetas. De esta manera se genera un efecto visual muy bonito, como si los personajes estuvieran flotando en el cielo durante un atardecer.

These cards are so beautiful on their own that I decided not to add any sentiment, as I felt it might take away some of their magic. However, if I wanted to include one, I would place it on the basket so that the balloon and the characters remain the focal point against the background.
Estas tarjetas son tan bonitas por sí solas que decidí no añadir ninguna frase, ya que sentía que podría restarles parte de su magia. No obstante, si quisiera añadir un sentimiento, lo colocaría sobre el cesto para mantener el protagonismo del globo y de los personajes sobre el fondo.
