I hope you are already preparing your resolutions for the year 2024. We wanted to share with you the Reels of these cards created at the last minute to welcome the new year. Those of us who creatively make cards sometimes get stuck because, among all the materials we have, we do not find the die sets or stamps that best suit the cards we want to make. However, it is important to take a good look at the products, put them on a table, and sketch cards with the theme we want, even if they are not for that purpose. For the New Year's Eve cards, you simply need a birthday die set (with balloons or party hats) and a number die set.

Espero que estén ya preparando las resoluciones para el año 2024. Por ello, hemos decidido compartir con ustedes estos Reels de estas tarjetas creadas en el último momento para dar la bienvenida al nuevo año. Las que realizamos tarjetas de manera creativa a veces nos estancamos ya que entre todos los materiales que tenemos no damos con los sets de troqueles o de sellos que más se ajusten a las tarjetas que creemos crear. No obstante, es determinante observar bien los productos, ponerlos en una mesa y bocetear tarjetas con la temática que queremos aunque no sean para ese fin. Para las tarjetas para fin de año que queremos mostrarles, simplemente es necesario un set de troqueles de cumpleaños (con globos o gorros de fiesta) y un set de troqueles con números.

We have always used a Champaign bottle stamp set to make
New Year's Eve cards and didn't have many other products, but we have found two Spellbinders die sets that would work very well together for this theme, even though they are not made for this purpose. They are the
Birthday Wreath Add-Ons Etched Dies die set and the
Jersey Numbers Set Etched Dies die set. As you can see, the first one is for making wreath cards, similar to Christmas cards, but complemented with gifts, balloons, and party hats to create birthday cards. For the second set of dies, these dies are sports numbers, i.e. they are in the style of the scoreboards at sporting events. However, these two sets have been selected for our purpose, cards for the end of the year, and we have succeeded!
Para crear tarjetas para fin de año siempre habíamos utilizado un set de sello de una botella de Champaign y no teníamos muchos más productos, pero hemos encontrado dos sets de troqueles de Spellbinders que podrían funcionar muy bien juntos para esta temática, aunque no hayan sido fabricados para dicho fin. Se trata del set de troqueles Birthday Wreath Add-Ons Etched Dies y el set de troqueles Jersey Numbers Set Etched Dies. Como pueden observar el primero es para montar tarjetas de coronas de flores, parecidas a las de navidad, pero complementándolas con regalos, globos y sombreros de fiesta para crear tarjetas de cumpleaños. Para el segundo set de troqueles, se trata de números deportivos, es decir, son del estilo que muestran los marcadores en eventos deportivos. No obstante, estos dos sets han sido seleccionados para nuestro propósito, tarjetas para fin de año. ¡Y lo hemos conseguido!

For the first card, we created a card for the end of the year with elegant colors, black and gold, and in different shades. The background of the card is black, but a more intense black than the images that we would glue on it to make it stand out. Then, we would play with the golden colors to highlight the sentiment of the card and, in this case, avoid overloading it. We think that the combination of elements and colors in this card is a clear example of how to make a card. The elements do not overlap and if they do, as in this case with the background and the phrase, we simply highlight with brighter and more eye-catching colors.
Para la primera tarjeta, creamos una tarjeta para fin de año con colores elegantes, negro y dorados, y en diferentes tonalidades. El fondo de la tarjeta es de color negro pero un negro más intenso que las imágenes que pegaríamos sobre la misma para que destara. Luego, jugaríamos con los colores dorados para destacar el sentimiento de la tarjeta y, en este caso, evitar sobrecargarla. Pensamos que la combinación de elementos y colores de esta tarjeta es un ejemplo claro de exposición de cómo realizar una tarjeta. Los elementos no se solapan y si se solaparan como es en este caso con el fondo y las frases, simplemente resaltamos con colores más llamativos y brillantes de aquello que queremos destacar más.

For the second card, we made a more colorful card, both in the background, the phrase, and the elements. However, the background did not need to draw too much attention so the elements and the phrase remained the main focus of this card. That is why
Nuvo shimmer powders were used for this occasion. These are powders that are added to a piece of watercolor cardstock and react with water to create very shimmery abstract backgrounds. As we wanted the background to be as unobtrusive as possible, in this case, we proceeded to add a lot more water to lighten the color to more pastel tones. Then, for the elements, we would need some multicolored cardstock. As we did not have that kind of cardstock, we used a piece of
Hot Foil Rainbow and stuck it on a piece of double-sided adhesive sheet. We die-cut the elements (the party hats) and removed a transparent protective film that comes on the foil, which is what prevents the foil from burning directly when heated with the Hot Foil System (Read about this new system
here). The good thing about using
double-sided adhesive sheets is that it is cleaner, as they do not stain like
liquid glue. However, once you position the item you can no longer move it around and remove it, which is what you can do with liquid glue, which you have a few seconds before the glue becomes permanent. Therefore, both alternatives are good options.
Para la segunda tarjeta, montamos una tarjeta más colorida en todo, tanto en el fondo como en las letras y elementos. No obstante, el fondo no debía llamar mucho la atención para que los elementos y la frase se mantuvieran como el foco principal de esta tarjeta. Es por ello por lo que en esta ocasión se utilizaron los polvos shimmer de Nuvo. Estos son unos polvos que se añaden a una pieza de cartulina de acuarela y reaccionan con el agua para crear fondos abstractos muy brillantes. Como queríamos que el fondo fuera lo menos llamativo, en este caso, se procedió a echar mucha más agua para aclarar el color a tonos más pastel. Luego, para los elementos sí que necesitaríamos unas cartulinas de color multicolor. Como no teníamos dicha cartulina, utilizamos una trozo de Hot Foil Rainbow y lo pegamos sobre un trozo de una hoja de adhesivo a doble cara. Troquelamos los elementos (los gorros de fiesta) y quitamos una película protectora transparente que viene en el foil que es lo que hace que no se queme el foil directamente cuando se calienta con el uso de la Hot Foil System (Lee aquí sobre este nuevo sistema). Lo bueno de utilizar las hojas adhesivas de doble cara es que es más limpio, ya que no mancha como el pegamento líquido. No obstante, una vez que posicionas el elemento ya no lo puedes mover y quitar, que es lo que puedes hacer con el pegamento líquido, que tienes unos segundos antes de que el pegamento se vuelva permanente. Por lo tanto, ambas alternativas son buenas.
