Mistakes with the Glimmer Hot | Errores con la Glimmer Hot

Hello crafty friends,

Over the past few weeks, I have been creating several card scenes with a foil-stamped phrase, using the Spellbinders Glimmer Hot Foil system (there are other brands that use this system, such as Crafter's Companion). However, on these cards where I used ink and foil, I noticed several mistakes I made. Here's how I fixed them.

En estas semanas, he estado creando escenas de tarjetas con una frase estampada de foil, utilizando el sistema de la Glimmer Hot Foil de Spellbinders (hay otras marcas que utilizan este sistema, como por ejemplo, Crafter's Companion). Sin embargo, en estas tarjetas en las que he utilizado tinta y foil, me di cuenta de varios errores que cometí. A continuación les muestro cómo los solucioné.

For the first card, I used the Vineyard HeroScape stamp from Hero Arts. These stamps are layered, i.e. they are stamped one by one with different inks to create a scene as the final result. I have always loved this type of stamp set (the HeroScapes stamps and the Layering Stamps), as they create images that are very realistic. In my case, I used two colors of ink in each layer to give contrast to the image. For the grass, I used green tones, and for the flowers, violet tones. For the main image, the bench, that I stamped in the center of the card, I used one shade of green, but I stamped it several times to make it much darker than normal. However, the mistake I made was to add the glimmer hot foil piece after coloring the sky with violet inks, as the phrase should have been added before coloring the sky in the first place. As you can see in the photo, the phrase was left with a halo around it, as the foil stuck to the ink and it was impossible to remove those imperfections with an eraser. Even so, I didn't dislike the result and, for that reason, I left it like that.

Para la primera tarjeta, utilicé el sello de Hero Arts llamado Vineyard HeroScape. Estos sellos son por capas, es decir, se estampan uno a uno con diferentes tintas para crear una escena como resultado final. Este tipo de set de sellos (los sellos HeroScapes y los sellos en capas, en inglés Layering Stamps) me han encantado desde siempre, ya que creas imágenes que son muy realistas. En mi caso, utilicé dos colores de tintas por capas para dar constraste a la imagen. Para el césped utilicé tonos verdes y para las flores, tonos avioletados. Para la imagen principal, el banco que estampé en el centro de la tarjeta, utilicé un tono verde, pero lo estampé varias veces para que quedara mucho más oscuro de lo normal. Sin embargo, el error que cometí fue añadir el foil de la glimmer después de haber coloreareado el cielo con tintas avioletadas ya que, en primer lugar, se debería de haber añadido la frase antes de colorear el cielo. Como pueden ver, la frase quedó con un halo alrededor, ya que el foil se adherió a la tinta y fue imposible quitar esas imperfecciones con la goma. Aún así no me desagradó el resultado y, por ello, lo dejé así.

En el caso de que no guste el resultado del foil, a continuación les expongo otra tarjeta que creé y esta vez sí que di solución a la parte que no me gustó.

For the second card, I used the Meadow HeroScape stamp (also from Hero Arts). As with the previous card, I stamped each of the stamp layers with various colors, although this time I used shades of green and turquoise for the grass and shades of pink and violet for the flowers. However, this stamp has a lot of detail, and to create more contrast in colors with alcohol markers (I use Copics). Then, I made the same mistake as before (this time on purpose). I inked the background with a nautical blue tone and black around the edges and added the word applying the hot foil in white. The same halo as the previous card was created again, but this white foil was denser and more difficult to remove. To fix the mistake, I decided to use a nautical blue cardstock and applied the white foil to it, although this time I used the dies to cut out these words ('Happy' and 'Birthday'). My intention was to cover the mistake completely, but I realized that I could cover it partially, so I could create a shadow on the right side with the hot foil stamped directly on the card. It honestly turned out better than I thought it would. I wouldn't be surprised if I created this kind of shadow again in this way as it gives a different touch to the card.

Para la segunda tarjeta, utilicé el sello Meadow HeroScape (también de Hero Arts). Como en la tarjeta anterior, estampé con varios colores cada una de las capas del sello, aunque esta vez utilicé tonos verdes y turquesas para el césped y tonos rosas y avioletados para las flores. Sin embargo, este sello tiene mucho detalle, y para crear un mayor contraste, decidí darle un toque más de color con rotuladores de alcohol (yo utilizo Copics). Luego, cometí el error anterior (esta vez aposta). Tinté el fondo con un tono azul náutico y negro en los bordes, y apliqué la palabra con foil de color blanco. Se creó nuevamente el mismo halo de la tarjeta anterior, pero este foil blanco era más denso y difícil de quitar. Para solventar el error, decidí utilizar una cartulina azul náutico y le apliqué el foil blanco, aunque esta vez utilicé los troqueles para cortar estas palabras ('Happy' y 'Birthday'). Mi intención era cubrir el error completamente con estas nuevas palabras, pero me di cuenta que podía cubrirlo parcialmente, para así crear una sombra por el lado derecho con el hot foil estampado directamente sobre la tarjeta. Sinceramente quedó mejor de lo que yo creía. No me extrañaría nada que volviera a crear esta especie de sombra de esta manera ya que le da un toque diferente a la tarjeta.
